On the 5th and 6th of September, the Humber community held it’s first Humber Care Tech Challenge at the splendid Bridlington Spa. The purpose of the event was for teams from all sectors to try to solve some real world care challenges using readily available technology.
Thirteen teams entered, from a diverse range of backgrounds including health & social care, academia and private industry. The teams were given the task of creating solutions to support people in their home—it was a real hotspot for innovation!
The event took place across two days, with the first day being dedicated to concept and design and day two being assigned to development and building the solutions. The event was supported by Amazon, with on-site support and hardware available for teams wishing to integrate with Alexa or Amazon cloud services. Subject-matter experts were also available to support the teams.
We had some truly incredible concepts on show ranging from interactive fridge magnets with integrated telecare facilities to room description tools for the visually impaired. Some of the ideas on show were identified as being truly market leading. The winning team, a partnership between Hull Computer Science Society (CSS) and City Health Care Partnership, produced a Smart Care Home System with Alexa integration allowing for an individual to interact with the home through a spoken interface.
A big thanks to all those who supported the event.
